There are five Chinese consulates in the US: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Houston. Each serves a specific group of states.

The 8 States Under SF Consulate Jurisdiction (2026)

As of June 29, 2024, the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco officially serves the following 8 states:

If you live in any of the following, do not apply through San Francisco:

• Southern California (LA, San Diego, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino) → Use Los Angeles consulate
• Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico → Use Los Angeles consulate
• Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico → Use Houston consulate
• Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska → Use Chicago consulate
• All East Coast states → Use New York consulate
